Quest for Mindfulness – 8

Psalm 46:1-3

God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change,
though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea;
though its waters roar and foam,
though the mountains tremble with its tumult. Selah

Living with a volcano in my backyard is beautiful, but gives my life an interesting reminder of our my impermanence. I don’t think about the mountain every day, but, even hidden by clouds and rain, it is always there. My trust is, and has to be in God. My practice of mindfulness reminds me I’m not in charge. I absolutely have to let go of constant striving for control, and place my trust in someone more powerful than I am.

From the hills I gather courage,

Visions of the day to be,

Strength to lead and faith to follow,

All are given unto me.

I’m using the writings and encouragement of many people – including the daily common lectionary, this website, and this app, in my Quest for Mindfulness.
