Five things that made me happy today – 10/17/19

1. The rain continued off and on all day, as promised. We had a short lull around noon, and another around 3:30, but it’s supposed to continue for the foreseeable future. Additionally, it’s pretty blustery.

2. I woke up to the news that Representative Elijah Cummings had died this morning. This is another case when I’m trying to find a reason to be happy – I am happy that I lived during the time that he did, and that he was such a force for civil rights, and, by all reports, a kind and caring man. May he rest in peace and rise in glory.

3. I’m really, really happy that we have the Wellness Center so that on days when it’s too cool or too rainy to walk or exercise outside, we can go over there.

4. I had a good workout with my personal trainer today. She had me doing circuits that focused on balance, agility, and strength with some cardio thrown in for good measure. I was pleasantly tired when I finished – so I rewarded myself with a grande mocha and a blueberry scone.

5. There was an area-wide earthquake drill today (one of the “perks” of living in the Pacific Northwest). We received an instruction sheet (drop, cover (crawl under a table), and hold on), and a green laminated sign that says in 6-inch high letters ” O K ” to put in our window if we don’t need immediate help. We got an earthquake kit a couple of years ago – a backpack with a Mylar tent/blanket, enough food for 4 days for two people (we’re supposed to have food for 2 weeks, but there’s enough in the pantry), and other handy items. We have four 9-gallon jugs of water in the garage that we dump and refill yearly, and two solar-powered flashlights that will also charge our phones. I think we’re as ready as we can be.

How about you? What made you happy today?
