In the midst of gathering darkness, light becomes more evident.

2. I woke up in the middle of the night to trek to the bathroom, and after I got back in bed, I realized I was stewing and worrying about COVID-19. Is that stuffy nose the virus? Do I need to cough? Am I too hot? Are my feet cold? And then, as if the Holy Spirit had spoken directly to me, the thought came “I don’t even do everything reasonable to protect myself from worsening diabetes, or being over-weight, or driving too fast, or enjoying a margarita too much.” Those things will surely kill me early – I’m not even sure whether I’ve been exposed to “THE VIRUS.” With that cheery thought I decided to do what I can – wash hands, etc. – and quit worrying, and I went back to sleep.

3. They cancelled the conference I was planning to go to next week. I’ve cancelled my hotel in Chicago, and cancelled the train reservations. I had to pay a penalty for the train cancellations, but I got most of the money back in vouchers. Big Al and I will be able to go visit the folks in Central Washington several times without forking over for the train.

4. Big Al had his workout with his personal trainer this morning, and afterwards we stayed and ate in the empty Bistro. I ordered a chef salad for him from the kitchen upstairs, and I brought my egg salad sandwich from home.

5. With no face-to-face activities, I was able to make progress on the socks I’m knitting while watching Longmire on Netflix.

How about you? What made you happy today?
