Five things that made me happy today – 10/18/22

Charity is no substitute for justice withheld.

St. Augustine of Hippo

1. High 40s at dawn with smoky fog. AQI – 86 (Moderate). We got into the mid-60s this afternoon under sunny skies. Still an AQI Alert of 88 (Moderate). Only two more days of smoky haze.

2. Back to Bible study this morning. We looked at Joel 2:23-32. It’s a strange, but oddly current passage. The promise seems to be everything will be right in the end. And if everything isn’t right, it’s not the end yet. It should be an easy passage to preach on, since God promises that the rains will return and so do the weather people. Rain should start Friday and continue for a while. Hopefully that will put the fires out for good.

3. I fixed pork chops, stovetop stuffing, cinnamon applesauce, and back-eyed peas for me, with beets for Big Al.

4. After lunch, I went over to the Wellness Center, and worked out while I listened to HCR’s Politics Chat. She admits that the uncertainty surrounding the mid-term elections, and the refusal of the MAGA Republicans to believe in our democracy is terribly worrying. I guess I’m not alone.

5. I’m enjoying my new iPhone 14 Pro – it’s basically the same as the iPhone 12 I had, but it tells me it has a better camera with all sorts of crazy features. I’ll try some of them out some day.

How about you? What made you happy today?
