Five things that made me happy today – 11/11/22

Patriotism is supporting your country all the time and your government when it deserves it.

Mark Twain

1. It was in the upper 30s and cloudy with a bright red sunrise over the mountains first thing this morning. Sprinkles were expected through the day, but they never materialized. High of 44 deg.

2. Two years ago today, Big Al landed in the hospital with difficulty breathing and low oxygen counts. Today, thanks to great medical care and Eliquis, he is much, much better. Our great medical care, compliments of 20 years in the Air Force, not to mention a reasonably comfortable retirement, makes all the disruptions of service life worth it.

3. I went over to the Wellness Center right after breakfast, and used the NuStep followed by meeting with my personal trainer. On my way home through the Bistro, the barista had baked goods that needed to be eaten, so I picked up a slice of banana nut bread and an orange-current scone for us to have tomorrow.

4. Al and I decided that the pizza, etc., at the party this afternoon was enough for our lunch.

5. We had the first indoor social gathering with all the independent residents since 2019 (the beginning of COVID lockdown). Pizza, drinks, dessert, etc. Veterans were asked to bring interesting memorabilia, and it was great to find out who else shared some of our stories and experiences.

How about you? What made you happy today?

30 Days of Thankfulness – 11/11/22

For the month of November, I’m going to continue with my habit of posting things I am thankful for. Thankfulness is different from happiness, and I don’t want to conflate the two.

Today is Veterans’ Day. I’m grateful for Big Al, and my father, and all the other folks who donned uniforms and went to war. They gave a portion of their lives in military service so that we can all live with basic human freedoms. I honor their patriotism and their courage.
