30 Days of Thankfulness – 11/14/22

For the month of November, I’m going to continue with my habit of posting things I am thankful for. Thankfulness is different from happiness, and I don’t want to conflate the two.

Today I’m thankful for my siblings. It’s always lovely to talk to them on the phone. I’m sorry we don’t live closer, but when we’re together, the years fall away and we enjoy each other. It’s restful to be able to talk without explaining the subtext of everything I say. We are about as different in political thought, religious beliefs, and daily activities as it’s possible to be, but we get along when we’re together. I love them all.

Today I’m thankful for my friends on social media. You inspire me, and correct me, and pray for me, and love me. Some of you I’ve met in real life, and some are only pictures on a computer, but you are all dear to me. (And if your picture/icon didn’t make it there, it doesn’t mean I’m not thankful for you – it just means that Facebook only shows 16 at a time.)

Today I’m thankful for the ACLU. I get worn down with all the political wrangling that seems to be our fate, so I’m pleased that there is somebody who is keeping an eye on the Constitution and everyone’s rights.

Today is Ray and Kathy’s 9th Anniversary. They’ve survived a lot of troubles in these years, but it seems to have made them stronger.

Happy Anniversary, Ray and Kathy. May you continue to enjoy each other, and live long in your marriage.

30 Days of Thankfulness – 11/4/21

Today I’m thankful for scientists who, against all odds, have created a vaccine to help combat this pandemic. I’m thankful for their knowledge and creativeness. This time last year, I feared we would be locked down and isolating for many months to come. I’m thankful that the vaccines seem to be working to bring this horrible disease under control.

30 Days of Thankfulness – 11/3/21

Today I’m thankful for the people working hard to combat climate change. Scientific reports say that the world doesn’t have much more time before the oceans and climate will change irreversibly. I’m also thankful that we’re beginning to look at ways to adapt. It probably won’t affect me too badly, but I worry about the grandchildren. It’s a beautiful world and I’d like to leave it the same way for future generations.
