Five things that made me happy today – 12/9/21

Our hearts grow tender with childhood memories and love of kindred, and we are better throughout the year for having, in spirit, become a child again at Christmastime.

1. It was in the high 30s and cloudy when I got up this morning. We had a pretty hard rain shower between 7:00 and 9:00, and then this afternoon the sun came out for several hours. The temperature stayed stubbornly at 43 deg, though – seemingly unaffected by the sun.

2. We had a Zoom presentation about next year’s budget here at FTJ. Big Al and I already got the bad news about our rent going up 4.5%. The best part about that was the anticipation that our income will be going up by 5.9% according to the Feds. When everything you get in income is from the government, the national inflation rate matters.

3. Lunch today was pork chops, roasted potatoes, and broccoli for me, with red cabbage for Big Al. We had to eat earlier than he prefers because… (See #4)

4. Big Al had a followup appointment with his pulmonologist this afternoon. I’m trying to get him to be less dependent on me for standard things like doctor’s appointments, so he got a ride from Transportation. They picked him up around 1:30 even though his appointment wasn’t until 2:40, and they’ll bring him home afterwards. There’s no reason for me to drive down with him and then wait for 45 min. just because he does’t want to walk in from the parking garage. The good news is that he is really good, and the doctor only wants him back in six months.

5. Christmas presents (both to us and from each other) are beginning to dribble in. Now, if I can only ignore the chocolate covered peanuts and cashews that came today until Christmas. I highly recommend The Texas Pecan Co.

How about you? What made you happy today?
